Crime Watch Corner – News from the Crime Watch & Safety Committee

Hi Neighbors !
So far it has been a quiet summer, if you don´t count the 13 loud music complaints in our neighborhood. There were also two drug incidents and a criminal mischief. I get this information by going to the TPD Online Statistics. If you want to make it one of your favorites like I have, go to Tallahassee Online Police Statistics, and at the drop down box, change address to Neighborhood Associations, the drop down box below has Forest Heights/ Holly Hills NA. You can choose the statistics that you want to search. It will also pull up a map with the locations of the incidents on it. It is interesting. I wonder if the neighbors that are reporting the problems are reporting them to their Zone Captain because I am not receiving any information. We would like the information t o correlate it with rental property information that the Property Use Committee is compiling. I hope to see a good turn out for the meeting.
See you there.

Grass Clippings – Notes from the Neighborhood Beautification Committee

Believe it or not, it is time to select the next Yard of the Quarter winners! We are calling for nominations now through July 24th. Please contact us if you know of a neighbor´s yard that should be part of the competition. If you nominated a yard last quarter and it did not get chosen, please re–nominate it if you feel it should be in the running. You may email your nominations to Gineen Krafft at pkrafft@plp.info or call her at (850) 386–6479. Congratulations to last Quarter´s winners! The neighbors who won were:

Each of our winners has been given a yard sign announcing their award. The signs will be moved to the new winners´ yards after the meeting on July 28th. If you haven´t done so already, take a couple of minutes to drive by or walk by these homes. They are truly winners!

Resist the urge to put in new plants in the baking heat of August. Instead concentrate on maintaining the plants you have and preparing them for a spectacular fall blooming season. In two months the garden will be ravishing if you can manage a few small chores now. Work in the early morning hours to avoid the heat. For those gardeners who don´t do mornings try working in the cool of the evenings. Take a critical look at your garden and see what needs trimming and neatening. Remove spent blooms from shrubs such as hydrangea, crepe myrtle and butterfly bush. Trim floppy, overgrown annuals to freshen them up. Cut back leggy perennials, like salvias and pentas, by one-third. If you have questions, call the Leon County Extension Office at (850) 606–5202 and ask to speak to a Master Gardener. They are a great resource.

We need more committee members! Come on, folks, this is a fun committee! If you are interested in becoming part of this committee, please contact Gineen Krafft at pkrafft@plp.info or call her at (850) 386–6479.
